In 1966 The Freedom Quilting Bee Co-op was founded. This group of African American women from Alabama had 2 primary goals- To raise money for the civil rights movement and to help improve the standard of living for the families of these quilters. Many of the women in the co-op lost their jobs as a result of marching for civil rights. Find out more at the Freedom Quilting Bee .
